Hello, I'm Jo Allen - founder of Pardus Counselling and Psychotherapy. Pardus comes from panthera pardus - Latin for leopard. I believe that just like the leopard, we all have the potential to change our "spots". This could mean addressing our thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
I studied at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute (SPTI) in Nottingham, gaining a BSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and abide by their ethics and principles. For more information, please visit British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (bacp.co.uk)
I work with individual clients aged 18 and over.
I gained a Diploma in Clinical Supervision (SPTI) in May 2023, and offer in-person and online supervision for individuals and small groups (up to 3 people). Please email me for more information.
I am seeing clients in person with a Covid policy in place. I will also be continuing to offer online therapy indefinitely. Please get in touch to find out more.
My clinical work is supported by professional supervision and I attend regular Continuing Professional Development courses (CPD) to make sure I am up to date with current practises and ethical standards. I hold an enhanced DBS check, and am registered with the ICO in line with GDPR requirements.
I have experience of working for counselling services in the inner city, as well as working with various Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) providers, offering short-term therapy to employees of different companies with personal problems and/or work-related problems.
I also have experience of working with trainee therapists, and have been approved by several local training providers. Please get in touch to find out more.
I am able to offer therapy via Bupa private health care.

Change is often what motivates people to access therapy. You may want to change how you act or feel in certain situations. Maybe you are struggling to adjust to a life changing event and need support.
I believe that change takes place in a supportive and collaborative relationship, and I offer this by providing you with a safe and non-judgemental space to talk. I am committed to helping you explore the challenges that you may be facing and to support you in finding the best way forward.
Common problems that people bring to therapy include, but are not limited to:
Sometimes, you may not even know what has brought you to therapy - this is common too! In our initial consultation, we can discuss what you might need and work it out together. We would then review our work periodically (e.g. after 6 weeks, then every 3 months) to ensure we are still on the right track and that you are getting what you need from the therapy.
My main theoretical modality is Integrative/Humanistic, and I draw on several recognised theories in my work such as Psychodynamic theories, Person-Centred Theory, Gestalt, object relations and attachment theories, and trauma work, as well as using techniques such as mindfulness and creative interventions.
I have a special interest in trauma, and illnesses such as CFS/ME, Fibromyalgia, inflammatory conditions and chronic pain, and work holistically with the whole person to assess what you might need. Although therapy cannot cure these conditions, it can support you in adjusting to life post diagnosis, and aid you to process the impact of your condition.
I am also studying to support people who are autistic. This may mean you have a diagnosis, or self-diagnose. I offer a neuro-affirmative way of working.
I offer a FREE 15 minute phone call to briefly discuss what you might need from therapy. We can then arrange an initial consultation. Initial consultations cost £55, and subsequent sessions are charged at £55 for a 60 minute session. I require at least 48 hours notice for cancellations - if it is less than 48 hours then the full fee is

"You have really helped me after years of trying to cope with medication or on my own. I can't say enough how much the counselling has changed my life. Thank you."
"Jo has been nothing short of outstanding in all my time working with her. I can honestly say she is one of the main reasons I feel like the person I am today & the person I want to be. Thank you."

"I feel I have made real progress in the time I have been coming to counselling with Jo. Truly grateful- thank you!"
"I have enjoyed my counselling very much. By talking things through, I think I have moved on from where I was when I first started. You have given me strategies to move forward with my life. Your counselling has been instrumental in helping me move on with my life. I would not be here without your support"
